Mentorship for Health Research Training Fellows - Clinical Academic Training (CAT) for Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health Professions and Healthcare Scientist (HCS) Programmes

Dr Lesley Collier

Dr Lesley Collier qualified in 1985 as an Occupational Therapist and has over 10 years clinical experience working in the field of Neurology and older people’s mental health. Based on these experiences she began investigating the effects of environmental demand and sensory processing on people with severe cognitive impairment. This led to collaborations with a number of other healthcare professionals in the USA and Far East alongside work with a number of UK based companies. She continues to work with many of these international collaborators whilst maintaining a small clinical case load in a private practice.

Lesley now has a split role within the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southampton teaching both undergraduate and post graduate Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy students whilst researching the effect of sensory processing and sensory integration on occupational performance. This role facilitates the translation of research into practice and has allowed Lesley to work extensively with clinicians tackling clinical problems within the work place.
