Mentorship for Health Research Training Fellows - Clinical Academic Training (CAT) for Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health Professions and Healthcare Scientist (HCS) Programmes

Professor Denis Martin

I am Professor of Rehabilitation in the Health and Social Care Institute in Teesside University. After my BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy from the University of Ulster in 1988 I gained a DPhil, also from the University of Ulster, and an MSc in Applied Statistics from Napier University. My research interests are in pain management and assessment and I have published widely in these areas.

I am comfortable with a range of quantitative and qualitative research designs. I have a strong track-record of PhD supervision with 10 completions to date. From 2005-2009 I was Chair of the Physiotherapy Research Foundation’s Scientific Committee, which awarded research funding, and projects in which I have been lead or co-applicant have attracted over £2.7m in external funding. I am currently on the editorial boards of Physiotherapy Practice and Research and the Journal of Pain Management.

Over the years I have been fortunate to have worked with some great mentors.
